Description

Emily and her new husband, Luke, were hoping for a corpse-free honeymoon in the peaceful English countryside. But it turns out not to be so peaceful after all.

Hoping to escape from their responsibilities for the first month of their long-awaited marriage, Luke and Emily Richards decide to fly five thousand miles away from Windy Corner to fulfill Emily's lifelong dream of staying in a real ancient English manor house—Fitzhugh Manor in Oxfordshire. In the course of their stay, Emily gets her fill of quaint villages, green fields, and impressive architecture steeped in history. But it's clear from their first dinner with the Fitzhugh family that the peace they were hoping for may prove elusive. The dowager Lady Margaret's festering resentment of her American granddaughter-in-law, Allison, poisons the atmosphere, and Emily soon begins to feel she's wandered into a Forster novel with all its attendant class conflict, family drama, and potential for violence. When one of the Fitzhughs dies in what appears to be a tragic accident, Luke and Emily suspect there's more to this fatality than meets the eye.
